About our group

Pontyclun Bosom Pals is a truly remarkable group that supports cancer patients and their families through surgery, treatment and beyond. Our members come from the catchment areas of Pontypridd through to Pencoed, and we meet on the first Wednesday of the month between 10am and 12pm for a cuppa, a friendly chat and to support one another at The Boars Head, Tyla Garw, Pontyclun.

For many years we have kept a calendar of events which has included fundraising events, special lunches, afternoon teas, St David's Day celebrations, fashion shows, open days, a massive one-off community event, visits to garden centres and so much more.

Over the years we have been supported by many local businesses, our own patrons, community councils and so many friends of the group. Sometimes during treatment we just need a hug, a friendly smile or a simple chat — we give all of this, and hopefully it helps through those darkest days.

The group has its own written constitution, which is amended as required, a full public liability insurance policy, and holds a yearly lottery licence with R.C.T.

Where it all began

Pontyclun Bosom Pals was started by one lady from Miskin who had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She had no members, no funding and nowhere to meet. It is a very traumatic time being given a diagnosis of cancer, and when all treatment and medical care has finished it can feel like being left in limbo. The group was formed for the simple reason of having someone to chat to, to give a hug, and to learn from each other's experiences.

Over the next few years membership grew and a meeting place was found. New members began to help and bring new ideas and support to each other.

Our story today

The group has gone from strength to strength, with over 20 members and supporters, a very active ambassador, and trustees and members determined to keep Pontyclun Bosom Pals in lights. It is widely known for its work within the community and its commitment to help as many breast cancer patients as possible through their cancer journey.

Sadly we have lost precious ladies to this horrible disease, but their memories will always be with us. We think of them always.

A special recognition for the group was the invitation to the Queen's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on 5th June 2018 — a truly wonderful day.

Weekly warming space

At the heart of our group is the support and advice you get from others in the same situation. Our warming space at The Boars Head gives us a space each week to meet, chat, laugh and help each other. Give us a call and let us know you are popping in.
