About Us
Pontyclun Bosom Pals is celebrating its 15th year in 2023.
A truly remarkable group that supports Cancer Patients and their families through Surgery, Treatment, and beyond.
The group has members from the catchment areas from Pontypridd through to Pencoed, we meet monthly on the first Wednesday of the month between 10 and 12 for a cuppa, a friendly chat and to support one another, at the Boars Head Tyla Garw Pontyclun.
We have had for many years a calendar of events for the year which have included fund raising events, special lunches, afternoon teas, St David’s Day events, Fashion Shows, Open days. A Massive one – off Community Event, visits to Garden Centres, and so much more.
Over the years we have been supported by many Local Businesses, our Own Patrons, Community Councils, and so many friends of our group.
Sometimes during treatment we just need a hug, a friendly smile or a simple chat, we give all of this and hopefully it does help through those darkest days. We have a Web Site, beautiful memory books, leaflets, and information, I hope you enjoy reading some of our activities and such wonderful memories. We have our own written constitution which is amended as when required. We have a full public liability insurance policy. We are also required with R.C.T to hold a yearly lottery licence.
We hope this booklet will highlight some of our groups achievements during the fourteen years, a special recognition for the group was the invitation to the Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on the 5th June 2018 this was a truly wonderful day.
Where It All Began
Pontyclun Bosom Pals was originally started by one lady from Miskin, fourteen years ago, who had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
She had no members, no funding, and nowhere to meet. It’s a very traumatic time being given a diagnosis of Cancer and when all treatments and medical care have finished, it can be a feeling of being left in limbo, subsequently the group was formed for the main reason to have someone to chat too, give a hug, learn about their experiences and more.
Over the next few years, membership grew and a meeting place was found. New members began to help and bring new ideas and support to each other.
Our Story
The group has gone from strength to strength and now in its fourteenth year with over 20 members and supporters, and a very Active Ambassador, and Trustees and members who are determined to ensure that this group will continue to do as much as they can to keep PONTYCLUN BOSOM PALS name in LIGHTS
It is widely known for its work within the community and commitment to help as many Breast Cancer Patients through their Cancer Journey.
Sadly we have lost three precious ladies with their battle against this horrible disease, but their memories will always be with us. We think of them always.
Barbara retired six years ago, but is still a member of this wonderful group of ladies, Barbara will celebrate her 80th Birthday this year,
The same year as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee so we shall certainly be having a celebration for them both.
